What is a ‘default web address’?
-
It’s unclear whether I can set up a custom domain with a free plan if I purchased the domain name from another host. The website says ‘Everyone can register a new domain or map an existing one to their site. Use it as your site’s main address with any paid plan.’ What does it mean to be the main address?

Hi there,
All WordPress.com sites get a free WordPress.com address, like example.wordpress.com. That is the main/primary address of the site by default, meaning that’s the address people see in their browsers when they’re on your site.
You can buy a domain from us without a plan, but then the domain will just redirect to the free address, as that remains the primary address. To have then domain be the primary address instead, requires a paid plan.
If you already have a domain you bought somewhere else, you need our domain mapping upgrade to connect the domain to your site, or you need to transfer the domain registration to us, and both those options can only be used by upgrading to a paid plan.
