What to do with an unused domain name

I have to use another hosting service and switch to WordPress.org and in order to use a 3rd party theme. My WordPress.com package includes a domain name but I have not yet chosen/registered it. Assuming I cannot get a refund at 6 months, I’m not sure what would be my best option. I’ll need a domain name, so should I register it through you and follow the Updating Nameservers process? That appears to be a really complicated process.

If you’ll be self-hosting your site, I recommend using a third-party domain registrar for your domain name as it’ll simplify setting up email accounts on your domain.
