What type of backup does WordPress provide its customers' websites?

  • Unknown's avatar

    1. What precautions has WordPress taken against crashes, hacking, etc. to ensure that customers will not lose all the effort they have put into creating their websites (my website now has 511 pages)? Have any of your customers’ websites ever been damaged or destroyed? If so, how did that happen and what steps has WordPress taken to ensure that it does not recur?

    2. Is there anything I should be doing to ensure that I do not lose what I have created? Is there some way for me to back up the website periodically?

    3. I now have used up 55% of my allocated storage space. What will happen when I approach 100%? Will I be warned? Will there be an opportunity for me to pay for additional space? If so, what will be the cost?

    Best wishes,

    Hi Bruce,

We take care of backing up your site’s content and can restore it for you if something on our end crashes. You are also welcome to regularly export your blog’s content to keep a local copy for yourself. We describe both of these backup methods here: Export: Backups

Once you get near to filling up your free storage space, you will see a warning in your dashboard. You are welcome to purchase a space upgrade for additional storage space on your blog if you need it. You can read more about the cost and what’s included here: Space Upgrade
