When changing the code, does the previous code disappear

I will be glad to receive any help! The site is quite old.

Problem: When making changes in the admin panel, the changes are saved and visible on the site, but after an indefinite time (several days/weeks) the change is reset to what it was before. This applies to specific elements, not the entire page or site as a whole. That is, some changed images remain in place, while others revert to the old ones. It seems to us that the changes disappear after new changes are made to the site.

Over the years, many different programmers have worked on the site, and we don’t know who made what mistakes.

This problem doesn’t just apply to visual content either. For example, we recently introduced code into the functions.php file, but after some time some of the new code disappeared. The problem occurs time after time.

If you have any theories about what could be the matter, please tell me. Thank you!
