When does my URL expire? Is wpengine.com a good choice to migrate to?

    Hi,

    We are thinking about migrating to wpengine.com. Once we move onto their service, do we lose the right to our current URL, which is http://haascrb.wordpress.com/

    Also, when would our URL expire?

    And one more thing: Do you think wpengine.com is a good choice given the fact we want a technically flexible service (e.g. plugins) that is backed with expert support?

    when would our URL expire?

    Never – haascrb.wordpress.com/ – will just site there waiting for you to return – there is no requirement for you to use your blog – your blog will be very patient (maybe a bit lonely) and wait for you

    Hey there Respbus,

    I’m the brand ambassador for WP Engine, so please assume that I’m 150% biased in favor of our hosting services. They sign my paychecks and fund my WordPress habit ;-)

    Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I’d like to say that yes, we are a good solution for you if you’d like a technically flexible service backed by WordPress experts. While we do lock down certain parts of the hosting environment, for example we only allow SFTP not FTP, these are typically for security or speed / scalability reasons and don’t prevent site owners from adding their own plugins or themes or adding unique customizations.

    It’s the best of both worlds in a lot of ways, and we’d love to help you host your sites!

    That said, since this is a community forum, I always like to plug the other managed WordPress hosts in the market: ZippyKid, Pagely, and WebSynthesis (Genesis Only). They all offer top notch speed and security and are run by WordPress experts who provide top of the line support.

    You can’t go wrong with any of them, but I’d love to see you over at WP Engine!

    If you want to know what users think, you have to ask at WordPress.ORG instead. By definition everyone here has already chosen WordPress.com to host their blogs.
