When I die what happens to my domain name

I bought a domain name for my son through wordpress a few years ago. I pay through paypal every year but I am really concerned at what will happen to this when I die. Is there any way I can change it to his credit card? Or is there another way I can be sure his site will not disappear when I do. Thank you!

Hi @barbaraslifeweb, is your son’s site here on our servers? Send a link and we’ll take a look.
For what it’s worth, if the site is here with us and he lets the domain expire, he would just have a free wordpress.com url instead. But we can certainly help you both set up proper ownership.

Yes it is here bluepeteraustralia.com – I know it would still have a wordpress address but would like to plan for the domain name to continue. Thank you!

Hi @barbaraslifeweb, great. That domain is registered through another account but it is here with us. Does he have access to that account, and would he be able to add his own card if needed? I hope you plan on sticking around for a good long time even if he does have access!

No he does not have access to that account. I would very much like it if you could arrange this and I can hand over the paying to him. Thank you so much for your help.

@barbaraslifeweb probably the easiest method is to just give him access to that account.
If you don’t want to do it that way, we can still help:
1) He will need to create an account with us if he does not have one already
2) You will need to log in as that other user, then contact us to have the upgrades transferred to him.

I am not sure what account he should have access to – if it is my bank account that would defeat the object because that would die with me – but if you mean he could add his card to the bluepeteraustralia account that would be excellent! Thank you so much.

Thank you – I will let him know that. I have never known how to log in to that account – my son receives an email saying the year’s payment has been made, and I get an email from paypal saying the money has been paid from my account! As soon as I can contact him I will – he is sailing at the moment.

Perfect, if he gets the email I’m sure he can access the account or reset the password if needed.

Thank you so much for your wonderful help Supernovia – I really appreciate it! I just have one more question…. even now that he has placed his card number in his account, how will WordPress know not to go on doing what they do automatically every year – take money from my account? I do not remember how I set it up in the first place and do not know where to go to tell them to stop!! This has been bothering me a great deal, but I have confidence that you will be able to sort it out!

Hi @barbaraslifeweb, if he has updated the account with his card, we will use that one. We won’t try the old card.
If there are any problems, we will email the account on file, so please be sure the one at a https://wordpress.com/me/account for bluepeteraustralia is up to date.
