When I login to WP, it states I have no sites. However, I do have one and have had it for years. What should I do?

Hi @ellinjimmerson, the site may be attached to a different WordPress.com account than the one you’re signed into now. Log out, then try any other email address, username, Apple/Google login, or older WordPress.com login you may have used when you created the site.

If you can’t get back into the original account, use the Account Recovery form:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

Add the site address and any ownership proof you still have.

Feel free to reply here with the site address if you’re comfortable sharing it, as that can help confirm if the site is on WordPress.com and ensure you’re looking in the right place.

Hi @ellinjimmerson, Great advice from @benitoalba above… the multiple accounts scenario is the most common cause of this, so that’s definitely the first thing to check.

One more thing worth trying: after you log in and see “no sites,” look at the URL in your browser. If it says wordpress.com/home, try navigating directly to wordpress.com/sites instead. Sometimes the dashboard doesn’t redirect correctly but your site is still there.

Also, if you used a Google or Apple login to create your account originally, make sure you’re signing in with that same method rather than a username and password… those are treated as separate accounts on WordPress.com.

Let us know what you find and we can go from there!

Hi @ellinjimmerson, the suggestions above are spot on, and the multiple-accounts scenario is by far the most common reason for this.

One other thing to consider is whether your site might actually be a self-hosted WordPress.org site rather than a WordPress.com site. If you originally set up your site through a hosting provider like Bluehost, GoDaddy, SiteGround, or similar, it wouldn’t show up in your WordPress.com dashboard at all, even if your login credentials happen to work here. In that case, you’d log into your site by going directly to yoursitename.com/wp-admin through your browser.

If you’re not sure which type of site you have, sharing your site address here would help us point you in the right direction quickly.

In the meantime, this guide covers all the common reasons a site might seem to be missing from your account and how to track it down: https://wordpress.com/support/account-and-site-management/

Let us know what you find!

You’re welcome, @ellinjimmerson! I hope you can find your site, and if you need any further help, let us know!

Thanks so much, Benito, Charlotte, Laila, and Jartes!
To clarify, I can get to my site by typing ellinjimmerson.com in the browser and to the dashboard by typing ellinjimmerson.com/wp-admin.

The problem is that I cannot get to my account via WordPress.com where, when I do, I am told I don’t have a site.

To answer your questions, when I see the “you have no sites” text, the browser reads: wordpress.com/sites.

I did originally have GoDaddy as my host, but I switched to InMotion Hosting several years ago. I get good help from them with certain issues.

I’ll open up the account recovery link but, to be honest, I’m leery of even trying to do that.

Y’all are the best. Thanks so much!
    Ellin

You don’t need an account recovery link. Your site is at Inmotionhosting. This is WordPress.com which is a completely different host for sites. As the staff member already said above:-

One of the tremendous problems for someone like me is that I don’t understand much of anything having to do with all this nor do I understand the questions. I know history and activism.
    I appreciate the information.
InMotion is the hosting provider, yet the website is constructed with WordPress, correct? Using a WordPress plugin, Slider Revolution. There is the WordPress logo on the backstage area.
Which still leaves me wondering why WP tells me I have no site nor a domain with it.

Let me see if I can clarify.

WordPress itself is a computer program written by thousands of volunteers around the world. However, that computer program needs to be hosted somewhere. That data needs to be stored on “servers”. Companies such as InMotion Hosting, or ourselves here at WordPress.com, provide hosting services but you can choose who you want that program to be hosted with.

So when you’re trying to identify a WordPress site, it’s not really a question of whether it’s WordPress, because “WordPress” can be hosted or managed by almost anyone. The question is where your site is actually stored. Where are the posts, pages, and all of the site’s data actually hosted?

In your case, that is with InMotion Hosting, so it is a completely separate company from ourselves here at WordPress.com.

So if you have problems with your site, the first people to reach out to are the company you pay for the “hosting” of it. Most hosting companies will offer some degree of support for your site itself too. In our case, we offer quite extensive support, but different hosting companies offer different levels of support.

I hope that helps to demystify it but feel free to ask anything else. We’re always happy to answer things.

That information is extremely helpful. I have a better understanding of what is going on. Thank you!
InMotion has been great at fixing problems.

However, I wonder if it matters that my website says it is a WordPress.org site?

I have a related problem. I bought a Slider Revolution plugin which is a WordPress related plugin. I need help with using some of the addons. Yet, in order to help me, the Slider Revolution want my WP credentials which I seem unable to provide.

    Can you help with this?

Hi Ellin, thanks for the additional info.

However, I wonder if it matters that my website says it is a WordPress.org site?

Yes, that does help clarify things. WordPress.org means your site was built using the WordPress software as Shaun shared earlier, but because it’s hosted with InMotion, the login details for your WordPress dashboard are managed through InMotion rather than WordPress.com.

To get the WordPress login credentials you’ll need to share with the Slider Revolution team, please reach out to InMotion’s support team. They should be able to help you recover or reset the admin login for your site so you can continue working with Slider Revolution on the addons.

We’re here if you have additional questions.
