When using the Site Editor, when should you edit a theme’s template ve

The WordPress Template Editor allows the creation of various templates for pages, posts, indexes, and archives. Themes often come with multiple templates for different kinds of pages or posts, and these templates can be updated and edited using the Template Editor.

Is there a point when a theme’s default template should not be edited, but a new template should be created and used? For example, would specific changes using the Template Editor cause issues when updating a theme to a new version?

That’s a great question, but personally I don’t think there is a difference with either approach. I modify the default template.
