Where has description and title content gone on media?
-
I have not added anything to my WP account for several months but I have over 10y of graphs with comments and descriptions there. I generally use it for preparing scientific text with graphs for use elsewhere. In general I include the code I used to make the graph and data source for reference.
Previously I would just go to media library page , maybe narrow it down with a search and click on the thumbnail. This would get me to edit more where I could change the text ( title, description,, etc ) with a link to view the page in non edit mode as see by everyone else.
Now if I select an image it gets hightlighted and there is an Edit button. The description edit box is hopelessly small but it’s there, with what looks like my text and title.
There is also a URL which I can copy and paste in a new browser tab. But the page this gets is just the image file. NO title, NO description text.
Below is a one line comment ‘There’s more to discover in the WordPress app.’
What the hell is this ? Has WP just pulled the rug on ten years work and the content can only be accessed if I buy a smart phone and sign up for for 4G account?
What the hell is this ?

Hi there,
Given that you’ve been on WordPress.com for some time you may wish to switch to our legacy interface, which you are more familiar with by the sound of it.
To do that, you will want to set your account to “Show advanced dashboard pages” here: https://wordpress.com/me/account
Just click the option shown in my screenshot here: https://d.pr/i/QqCdQz
Once you have turned on that option, you can visit the media library and should see the more advanced wp-admin interface you are used to.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks Jerry, that sorted out my problem.
When the new interface was introduced a while ago there used to be a wp-admin entry in the main menu. This now also seems to have disappeared.
Constantly rearranging things without notice and without any notifications on how access existing features is not helpful.
It is not just a case of being more familiar, the edit box for description is so ridiculously small now as to be useless for more than one sentence. And apparently the link to the page produced by the interface is a version without title and description content anyway, as I detailed above. Just the media file and and invitation to buy an iPhone !
Is it intentional that the presentation of user content gets crippled like this or am I just missing some subtlety of the new interface?
Thanks.
