Where has my stats page gone?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve had a blog on WordPress for 15 years. Last week WordPress threw me under a bus. I can no longer see which posts are being looked at on a daily basis and I can’t see how many people looked at my blog, day to day over the course of a month. The “classic” stats were elegant and useful, whereas the “new” stats are ugly and relatively useless (to me). Where’s my incentive to pay WordPress for more rubbish, or stay with them? …and the management and staff are so ignorant that they’ve consistently refused to reply to my complaint!

  • Hi @maddogtvdinners! Thank you for reaching out about your stats page. I’m part of the WordPress.com support team.

We have recently made some changes to the dashboard, in order to provide a more consistent user experience. I understand you aren’t happy with the recent changes in the default Stats page URL.

The page features and functionality remain, and you can access all sections of your stats by clicking on the tabs at the top of the page. You can also access more details for specific time ranges, locations, pages, posts, and more, by clicking on the links on each section.

You can find more information about WordPress.com stats here: https://wordpress.com/support/stats/

If you need anything else, please feel free to reach us anytime!

@staff-webwizard thank you for your response.

Sadly I can no longer access all sections of my stats, as I could with the previous stats at wp-admin/index.php?page=stats. The page features and functionality have gone.

Your new stats page/s do not show me clearly which posts were looked at today and have no idea which links were clicked.

The new stats page is not fit for purpose and it’s so ugly that I stopped looking at it several weeks ago.

    Please reinstate wp-admin/index.php?page=stats

  • Hey,

I wanted to let you know that we appreciate your feedback on the Stats experience!

I can see you’re unhappy with it and want to know the exact parts you’re missing and I’ll be happy to see if there’s a way to bring them back or we can discuss this internally for a possible feature request.

For now, the old Jetpack stats dashboard has been officially deprecated and is no longer accessible. Jetpack has transitioned to a new stats experience, which is now the only option available.

    Best,

    @robertghetau thanks for your response.

To start with the new stats are extremely ugly in comparison to the old stats. The old stats were very clean looking and displayed a whole month of daily views. The old stats also displayed which posts had been clicked on with the number of views per post. Everything was clear and easy to look at. The new stats are so bad that I no longer go to the stats page, whereas I used to look at the old stats throughout the day.

IMHO this is another nail in the coffin for WordPress, since introducing Gutenberg. The old WordPress was easy to use, like a word processor. Blocks needs considerable understanding of desk top publishing, relative to experience in Quark or InDesign. WordPress is no longer easy to use unless you have experience in graphic design …and then, Blocks is quite clunky and does not work very well when editing live, even when using tools like Elementor. You change something and it doesn’t update dynamically. Even when typing this message, the text jumps and moves around occasionally.

The introduction of the new stats was very heavy handed and a poor PR exercise.

  • Hey @maddogtvdinners!

    Thank you for sharing!

When it comes to design and practicality, there are definitely ways to improve them; however, I’ll try to address each of these aspects separately.

The old stats also displayed which posts had been clicked on with the number of views per post.

This is still available for Views and they can be seen under the Traffic or the Insights tab within the Stats section.

You also have a section dedicated to external clicks on the Stats tab:

Alternatively, you can see the number of views per post directly on the Posts page under the Stats column.

The Block editor has been a significant change when it comes to the editing experience; however, we’ve made sure the folks who want to use the previous version can, and so the Classic block was introduced. However, I believe the block editor has come a long way since then and I believe you’ll have an overall improved experience with it. If you need further guidance with it please reach out at help@wordpress.com and we’ll be happy to help.

Regarding Elementor, this is a third-party builder and while it can be used with a WordPress website in general, its experience and functionality is mainly supported by their team.

@robertghetau the new Stats pag does not show me, at a glance, what I used to see, so it is useless to me! I will not be visiting the new Stats page again!

  • I understand!

If you prefer other stats tools, that’s also a good alternative. With an active Personal or Premium plan you can also use Google Analytics through a plugin like Site Kit.

If you’d like to check our current offering, please check the main pricing page here:

I’m going to mark this as solved for now, but feel free to reach out if you need further guidance.
