Which is best when placing already owned domain on WordPress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to take a domain I own and put it on a WordPress.com blog. It says that costs $13 per year. I am already paying $14 per year to the domain registrar. WordPress.com says it does not do transfers. So does that mean I have to pay $27 per year to do this? Can anyone explain the options (please use simple terms–I read about changing DNS settings, for instance, but could not figure out if that affects the price).

Ideally I would like to spend as little as possible. I know I can point the name for free and continue to pay the registrar, which is OK too, but I prefer to have only one place to deal with. Can I pay the two fees and wait til the name expires, then re-buy it from WordPress.com, for example? Thanks.

  • @meditatingfrog we are unable to accept incoming domain transfers at this time.

Also while you could allow the domain to expire, it can be a lengthy process and you might not get it back at all.

However you may be able to find a cheaper registrar and transfer there to lower the total price.
