Which role?

I am a classroom teacher and plan on keeping the site private for myself and my classroom. What role would I put the students in if I want them to respond to my blog posts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I don’t know if WordPress.com has any special programs for such situations, but the WordPress.com Terms of Service specifies an age requirement of 13 for all members, saying:
Our Services are not directed to children younger than 13, and access and use of our Services is only offered to users 13 years of age or older. If you are under 13 years old, please do not register to use our Services. Any person who registers as a user or provides their personal information to our Services represents that they are 13 years of age or older.
That said, the purpose you have outlined would not necessarily require that the members involved have one of the User Roles assigned. As long as your comment settings allow them to, any member may leave a comment upon a post or page, See the Discussion Settings support page for relevant information and instructions.

If the children are of sufficient age, have either separate WordPress.com accounts or a single account shared among them, and you intend to have them publish posts (rather than comments) in response to your posts, then you might consider the following User Roles:
- Author – can write, upload photos to, edit, and publish their own posts.
- Contributor – has no publishing or uploading capability, but can write and edit their own posts until they are published
