Whirly wheel
-
Hiya,
I’ve just bought the ‘Personal’ plan and am trying to edit an old website appearance. Basically I just want to stary fresh. However when I go to ‘Appearance’ > ‘editor’ I just get a forever whirling wheel.
Help!

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Can you try visiting Appearance> Editor again? Once there select Templates in the Design section, then choose the template you’d like to edit.
If that doesn’t load the editor, please try to clear your browser cache or view Appearance > Editor in a different browser.
If you’re wanting to start fresh, you can empty the site with our video guide at https://wordpress.com/support/empty-site/
If you don’t mind, we’d love to hear what your plans are for the site once the Editor is working for you again. We’re more than happy to provide tips/suggestions to help make it a success.

Hi again,
On closer inspection, the domain wilderstitch.com isn’t pointing to WordPress.com. There are two A records in place on the domain that are preventing it from loading the site and some settings.
When you have a moment, please log into your WordPress.com account and visit Upgrades > Domains. From there, click on the three horizontal dots below the “Actions” title on the far right of the page, and select Manage DNS.Within there are two A records you’ll want to remove. Click the three vertical dots across from each A record to delete it. Once done, the system will update the DNS settings and issue the SSL certificate the domain needs. Once the SSL certificate is issued, the site will begin to work as expected. Please note that this process can take up to 72 hours but can sometimes begin working within a few hours.
If the settings aren’t loading 72 hours after you’ve deleted those 2 A records, please let us know.

So it looks like I’m connected, hooray! But I’m still unable to edit easily, I’m still getting the attached image. Just a whirly wheel and not loading.

Does it work if you sign out + back in, refresh the browser, or try a different browser all together?

Hi staff-zinnia,
thank you, yes, I tried all that, and emptying the cache. I’ll wait 72 hours and if it’s still all over the place, I might ask for my money back and try another website builder site. Super disappointed as I used to use WordPress all the time but it’s just not working. Fingers crossed it sorts itself out…

Hi, I have checked your site and see that you have switched to the Dara theme, which is one of the older themes that does not support the Site editor, so you should not have any issues.
In testing with the theme you had been using, Masu, I could not reproduce the issue you were experiencing in Chrome or Firefox. May I ask, what browser you where using when you had the issues?
Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi the sacredpath, I’m using Chrome because safari won’t open wordpress on my mac. Nothing is working. My website isn’t live yet. Now I can’t find editor at all…see images attached :-)

sorry, I meant Firefox won’t open WordPress. I imagine it’s an outdated version and I can’t update my browsers because my Mac is about 10yrs old now.

Hey there,
It looks like you may be seeing a cached site there, as I’m seeing the site return ok.
Does the site appear if you were to clear the browser cache? https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
I hope this helps so far!

Hi aleone89,
It seems to be working, hooray! BUT, (always a but), I’m trying to design my homepage and it seems to be set up as a blog, with a ‘leave a comment’ option which I don’t want. I also added an image, (just as a test) and there are two of the same showing up, one big and one smaller one underneath…
