  If I build a site using WordPress will I own the domain name?

  Hi there,

  If you create a site on WordPress.com we will provide you with a free WordPress.com address. That address is yours in the sense that you can use it for your site for as long as it exists, and we’ll never take it away from you to give it to someone else. But it will be a subdomain on our own domain, so you cannot transfer it away to use it with another provider.

  If you register a custom domain, that is your property for as long as you renew it each year, and you can also transfer it away from us at any time.
