Whole room full of error 666 and blocks during a class

    I just got done teaching a class on blogging at the local community college.

    As part of the class, we had everyone sign up for a blog on WordPress.com to start their first blog. We were going to have them post and create a blog.

    We had a ton of problems. About 5 our of the 30 people in the class were able to successfully sign up for a WordPress.com username and blog, the rest of the class got a couple of errors.

    1. Error 666 in the username and blog name box on sign up
    2. Some users got an grey screen and error message telling them to to wait 60 minute to try again.

    All of the computers are Windows XP and we tried using Chrome, Firefox and IE 8.

    Some of the users were able to submit the User Sign up form and create users, but we had a ton of problem.

    Does anyone know if we might have got caught up in an anti-hacking system because we were all connecting from one IP address with 30 computers?

    I do remember hearing that the software here throws up a block if it sees a bunch of sites being created in rapid succession from a single IP address. What qualifies as a “bunch” I don’t know.

    I think 666 errors are modem errors and have nothing to do with wordpress.
    Shut down your computer completely, wait for at least 1 minute (5 would be better) boot up your computer, reboot your modem (if external) and then try again.
