Whoops! Wrong wordpress…
-
I signed up for wordpress.com when I meant to sign up for wordpress.org. Unfortunately I already registered my domain name with wordpress.com. Is there anyway I can get out of that and register for my domain name elsewhere??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. Here are your options…

If you cancel the domain name here, it may be 30 days or so before you can get that domain name back and even then there is the possibility that someone might get it ahead of you.
My suggestion is to keep the domain name here and just point it at the new web host of your choice.

Hello! I am in the same boat as thispinkhouse. I just registered a domain name with wordpress.com but want more flexibility and control over my blog. I sent a request to have my domain cancelled so that I can have it hosted elsewhere and use the wordpress software. Is there anything else I need to do?
thispinkhouse, did you get this issue resolved yet?

You did not have to cancel the domain. You could have just pointed it at the nameservers at your new web host. The problem with canceling as I said above is that it might be 30 days before that domain name will be released for registration again and again as I said, there is always the possibility that someone will beat you to it.
