Why am I unable to upload a photo?

When I try to upload a 1.62 MB JPEG file (photo) to a draft I’m editing via the “Add Media” feature, I’m getting the error message: “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.” I did manage to upload photos in 8 posts in 2011 and 2012.
Is there an better theme and/or an easier way to upload photos into a posting? I abandoned my blog in 2012 for this reason. I’d like to begin blogging again, but interspersing photos is a huge time-waster and right now, appears to be an insurmountable challenge. I can’t get to the point of publishing 4 or 5 postings that are in draft because of this issue.
I am currently using the Twenty Eleven theme. If I were to change themes, what would happen to my earlier postings?

Hi there – the very large file size could be why the upload is failing. I recommend you make the image smaller (under 200K) in a separate image-editing program outside of WordPress and then re-uploading it. If you still have an issue after that, just let me know and I’ll ask you to send me the file by email so I can test it and see if something else might be going on. Thanks!
