Why are my old, deleted blog details appearing in my new account?

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently decided to start a new blog under a pseudonym. I had a site previously which I had only written a few posts on, so I decided to delete it before making the new one. I went through all the ‘are you sure you want to permanently delete it’ stages. However, I noticed that my author name was listed as my old one today. I changed it, but then found all my old posts and details in the new account. I did use the same email address to set up the new blog but nothing else. Does anyone know if using the same email means I can’t make an entirely new blog? Any light shed on this would mean I don’t have to scrap everything and start over again

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can’t have two WordPress.com accounts with the same email address. Changing the author name does not create a new account, nor does it change one account (old) into a different account (new).

To create a new account simply log out of the present account and go to the signup page to fill out the form. If you’re not logged into an account, you’ll be creating a new one with a unique username and a different email address.

No reason to start over again. If you’ve got two websites in the same account and want one of them in another account, you may easily create the second account and move a website from the first account into the second. See the support page Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account.

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I thought I had deleted the account I had initially and removed my first blog along with it. So when I went to sign up again I used the same email address that I used before, assuming that it would be the same as if I had never signed up in the first place. However, my old blog posts appear to still be there, so I must either not have deleted my initial blog properly or not understood the process fully. They don’t seem to be published or visible except for on my dashboard however. Either way, I will transfer my recent blog to a new account/email.

    Thanks again.

First, with WordPress.com the possibility of deleting an account doesn’t exist. Second, an email address can only be reused if you first change the email address of an account. For a detailed explanation see the “Reusing Email Addresses” section of the Deleting Accounts support page.

For how to delete a website see the Delete Site support page.
