Why are the basis theme templates not available?
-
Hello dear wordpress team,
at “pommernfischer.wordpress.com” I registred for a premium account and bought the “Basis” theme (https://thethemefoundry.com/wordpress-themes/basis/).
I choosed wordpress as a service and the theme because of great design and features. Not I would like to use the theme features and create a “product” page. The documentation (https://thethemefoundry.com/tutorials/basis/) mentions a template selection while creating a new page. But in my view there is no selection option for any template. As well the “Page builder” does not appear.
Do I have to switch anything on? Is there a bug or a problem somewhere? How can I use the theme features, which are promised on the theme page?
I only could find some forum posts hat specific php template files have to be available/activated – but at wordpress.com I do not have any FTP access.
I would be happy to get a solving hint.
Best regards,

Hi Jan,
Themes purchased elsewhere (like the Basis theme) can’t be uploaded to sites hosted on WordPress.com. They can only be uploaded to self-hosted blogs running on WordPress.org software. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org if you’re curious about that.
On WordPress.com, you can select from a variety of themes to change your blog’s appearance. We offer over 300 themes, both free themes and premium themes created by leading theme companies. You can view all of our themes and filter them by specific criteria in our theme showcase.
You can also post suggestions for new themes we might add in the Themes forum.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Hello.
Thanks for the quick answer.
But “Basis” is available at the theme store at wordpress.com and I purchased it there – and I was able to activate and configure it.
Only to use templates and the site builder does not work – but is promised on the theme detail page: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/basis/
So my assumption would be, that it should be possible to use.

Hi Jan,
I’m so sorry! I was thinking of a different theme (that isn’t offered here at WordPress.com) and thought you had purchased the theme somewhere besides WordPress.com. I see now that you have the Basis theme purchased here at WordPress.com. I apologize for that mixup.
There can be some differences between the version of a theme made for self-hosted WordPress sites (as described at https://thethemefoundry.com/wordpress-themes/basis/) and the version made for WordPress.com, so it’s best to refer only to the WordPress.com documentation for the theme here:
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/basis/support/
To select a particular template for a page, you can use the template drop-down in the Page Attributes module in the page editor. That module looks like this: https://cloudup.com/cAjQdcSsRXt
If you don’t see that module in the editor, you may need to enable it in the Screen Options tab in the upper right corner of the screen.
Once you choose the template you want, the specific builder for that template will appear.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that! You are also welcome to contact the Basis theme author for direct support in the Basis support forum.

Hello. Thanks a lot for the fast and detailled answer. Now I could see the template selection box – whyever I could not find it before. Either I am blind or it was not there. Thanks!
