Why aren't my blogs showing up on my homepage?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just renewed my subscription, but my blogs are no longer showing up on my homepage. At first I thought it was because my computer is super old, but they also aren’t showing up on my iphone either. Please help me!

    L.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I am not having any trouble seeing laceyjhenderson.com. Can you show me a screenshot of what you are seeing?

Here are some screenshot instructions if you are not familiar with the process:

    Take a Screenshot

I find http://snag.gy/ to be very useful for sharing screenshots. You can also upload the screenshot to your site’s media library. I will be able to see it there.

I used to have my entire blog archive on my homepage below the little about me blurb, and now nada…

Now none of my blogs are showing up and they show in my editor as published and available to the public…. but the public can’t see them if they aren’t showing on my homepage!

  • Unknown's avatar

How would I just be able to re-add my blog archive, with the most recent at the top, back on to my homepage??

  • So if you check your settings here:

    https://laceyjhenderson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php

You’ll see that you have your “Front page displays” set to “a static page” using your “about” page.

If you switch that setting to “your latest posts”, you’ll see your blog posts appear on your site’s front page again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Gah, we are getting so close!
So I did that, and then it was JUST my blog archive.

Where in the world can I find the heaven that existed where I had the About me blurb up top, then the blog archives below that?

Thank you so much for your help already!

    L.

  • That, I’m afraid, is something that I’m a little confused about.

When you composed the “about” it was as a separate page, correct? It wasn’t as a “sticky” post that you kept up at the top by any chance was it?

Have you switched themes any time since this got messed up? That might be a clue as well.

I’m so sorry this is much more complicated than I thought!
All I know is previously, my home page had a featured image on the right side of the screen (a head shot) and text that read:

“Lacey Henderson was just nine years old when her leg was amputated above the knee in a lifesaving measure after the diagnosis of a rare soft tissue tumor in her knee. It was a tough time for a young girl, but Lacey’s focus wasn’t on the negative. Instead, raised with the mindset that if you want something in life you’ll find a way to make it happen – no matter the odds against you”

Then underneath that, my blog archive with the most recent at the top.
Somehow when my subscription was ending/before I renewed it, the blogs went away. Now, I was able to get the blogs back on my homepage but the headshot and blurb above the blogs are now gone, but when I go to edit my pages, they exist somewhere in cyber space.

I wanted to get on the instantmessaging to fix it as I think that would be easiest but now it seems like instantly chatting is gone now too! I’m basically a 70 year old man in a 25 year olds body when it comes to technology so I feel helpless, a little upset, but mostly frustrated.

I can dink around I guess a little more with my homepage-page part of the editing.

    Thanks.
    L.

So I guess another way to explain it, is I want my homepage back. With my picture and text, but I also want my blogs to appear below it again.

  • So, if it was over on the right hand side above your archive, it was probably a widget of some sort. Can you find that image you used in your media library? If so, we can probably replicate what you had before.

I’m basically a 70 year old man in a 25 year olds body when it comes to technology so I feel helpless, a little upset, but mostly frustrated.

You can pole vault. Pole vaulting is insane. I promise you that you can learn to deal with a blog!

    Thank you!
Okay with further observation it’s in my pages titled “home”
How do I remake that my homepage AND get my blogs below?
Or also how do I get the instant messaging back and have someone hold my hand and wipe my tears as I fix this?

(I’m really sorry someone made my entire site for me before I was blogging and now I’m lost without her!)

    Hi Lacey!

How do I remake that my homepage AND get my blogs below?

You can set that up through your Customizer:

    https://laceyjhenderson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php

Move to the “Front” pane. Select “A Static Page” from the two options. Then from the first drop down menu choose your page “Home”. That should automatically show your posts below it once its set up that way, but let me know if it doesn’t. :)

Or also how do I get the instant messaging back and have someone hold my hand and wipe my tears as I fix this?

Live chat is only available through the Business plan:

    WordPress.com Plans [Redirects to Plans]

But we’re also happy to help you here in the forums or via email. You can also start a thread in the private section of the forums through the contact form:

    Contact

Just select ‘Private’ instead of ‘Public’.

Let me know what works best for you!

Gah! My company set up this website and I used to have instant messaging and now it’s gone. Things started getting weird right before the subscription was renewed and I paid for it on a personal account (I get reimbursed) and I feel like everything is all crazy now.

I just tried to go through and customize from the “front” and it took my blogs away again!

If that is no longer an option (somehow it seems like my account plan has changed from Business to Personal… How can I get my blogs to appear in a separate page? I just tried to mess around a little with adding a new page and it isn’t super easy to find where to add all of my blogs.

    Thanks again
    L.

    Hey Lacey,

It looks like you had the Premium plan before as well. You may have been working during one of our Live Chat experiments where we “open the floodgates” so to speak and test our system and gather usage stats.

I’m taking a look at your front page issue now. I’ll let you know what I find. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Alright, sorry about that. I was confused about how the settings work in this theme. So, in the demo:

    https://adventuredemo.wordpress.com/

The blog posts you see below the About Me section are Featured posts. So, it doesn’t just scroll through all of the posts on the site. If you want to set that up, here are some steps:

    1. Head back into your Customizer and select the “Featured Content” panel.
    2. Choose a tag that you want to use for these posts. Most users use “featured”, but you can choose anything you want!
    3. Head over to your posts and add that tag to the posts you want displayed on your front page:

      https://laceyjhenderson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=post

Either way, you’ll probably want to set up a separate page for your blog posts. Here’s some steps to do that as well:

    1. Create a new page for your blog posts to display on. This page doesn’t need any content, just a title. For example, “Blog” is a popular choice.

      https://laceyjhenderson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=page

If you’ve already created the page you want to use, you can skip this step.

    2. Head back to the Customizer and select the Front panel again.
    3. In the second drop down list (“Posts page”) select the page you created.

Make sure you save your changes.

Let me know if I can clarify anything above or if you have more questions. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Actually, I have to revise that again. I had an internet blip and my Customizer didn’t load all the way. :( Sorry my directions became so convoluted.

In my first set of steps above, you should head to the Theme panel, not Featured Content. Then select the category of posts you want to feature from the second drop down “Home News Category”.

If you don’t see any categories, head over here and add the one you want to use:

    https://laceyjhenderson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category

So, I wanted to give up on this until tonight.
I tried to do the most recent suggestion, and all of the sudden everything looks right again!
I havent even changed the featured content tags in my actual blog posts…
So I have no idea what happened but I’m glad it is showing up right again on the computer and on my phone.
    Phew.
    Thank you!
Should I be concerned as to my professional account/issues with that or should we just let this thread die??
    Thanks again
    L.

Hi Lacey! I’m so glad it all looks right again. :)

Should I be concerned as to my professional account/issues with that or should we just let this thread die??

Do you mean the Business versus Premium plan thing we were talking about before?

From your account’s history it looks like you’ve have a Premium plan subscription since December 3, 2013, but never a Business plan.

    https://wordpress.com/settings/billing-history/

There are a few times that we give users access to live chat features without the Business plan as well. You were probably working during one of those periods.

Let me know if you have more questions!
