Why aren't the links and post categories showing up in the home page?

In my two or three previous wordpress blogs I could easily and clearly set up categories for posts that would appear in a single column or area of home blog page. Also in this same area/column I could create a category under which links could be provided. With my newest blog “sustainwa” the previous methods I used aren’t working nor is following help tips: the links and categories aren’t showing up

You need to be using a theme with a widget area and the category and link/blogroll widgets.
