Why blogs don't go into categories that are checked

  Hi there, I’ve created a site which I’m really happy with but I find all my blogs go into Recent Posts menu rather than the Categories which I’ve created to match menu pages and checked. …not sure what I’ve not done correctly.

  It’s not clear what you mean by a “Recent Posts menu,” but I’m guessing you mean the Recent Posts widget. That’s normal behavior, of course. If you don’t want to display a recent posts widget it can be deleted.

  A common way to link to posts by categories is to use a custom menu which includes categories as the main links, followed by drop-down menus containing links to posts each each respective. Each category will have a series of links “nested” under it. A main category link in custom menu may link to a category archives page.

  Your category archive pages will look like the following:

  https://xfromx.wordpress.com/category/happy
  https://xfromx.wordpress.com/category/delirious
  https://xfromx.wordpress.com/category/fragilistic

  Category archives pages may also be linked to via a Categories widget in the sidebar, but this won’t display the titles. Besides Recent Posts, there are other widget options which you could use to display post titles, but Categories isn’t one of them.

  sorry might not have been clear. I created a menu and linked 4 categories to the menuof the same names – no sub menus. I find whenever I write a new post it goes into the one menu item/category (Recent Posts) rather than into the category I click. it will show I’ve clicked another category but it wont appear there. What have I done wrong in setting up the menu and category items? TIA

  That your site is private make it difficult to see what you’re referring to. Do you have a custom menu? Did you create a custom menu item titled “Recent Posts”? If so, what is the URL of the page it links to?
