Why can't I install plugins on an upgraded former wordpress.com site?
-
Hi – I just tried to convert a .com site, campbellnathan.wordpress.com, to a .net site, campbellnathan.net, assuming that would give me the capability to install plugins. Is this something that takes time to activate? Thanks

Hi there,
When you purchase a custom domain name (like your domain name campbellnathan.net) that changes the address that visitors use to find your site. However, that does not change any other features on your site.
As long as your site is hosted here at WordPress.com, it isn’t possible to install plugins, for security reasons. Those are a feature of self-hosted WordPress sites using the free software from WordPress.org. You can read more about that here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
If you’d like to move to a self-hosted WordPress site, we have a guide for moving it here: Moving a Blog
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
