Why can't I login properly after transfering from wordpress.com to wordpress.org
-
I did have a wordpress.com blog, but then I realised that I needed the flexibility of a wordpress.org site instead. So I followed the instructions to transfer my domain name which I registered with wordpress.com to a new registrar, which is dreamhost. I signed up for dream host and installed wordpress.org software with their one click auto install. The domain transfer to them was fully completed and the name servers (according to my dreamhost control panel) now point to ns1.dreamhost.com etc.
I then visited my website, http://ali-price.com and the wordpress install thingy came up. So I completed the login details and the wordpress software installation on my new server space was complete. I have also successfully connected via FTP.
However, although I managed to get into my new dashboard once by typing ali-price.com/wp-admin, I now cannot. For example when I tried to install a new theme, it took me to alipricedotcom1.wordpress.com and said “sorry but we can’t find what you’re looking for” or words to that effect.
And now if I type in ali-price.com/wp-admin into my web browser, it always takes me to the login screen for wordpress.com. In fact everything I do seems to automatically log me back in or direct me to wordpress.com. And the actual page itself, which I did not migrate (because it had basically nothing on it) is still appearing as the old page like it was when I had it on wordpress.com
Thank you very much for any help that you can give me with this problem.
Sincerely
Ali

http://ali-price.com/ appears to be properly directing to Dreamhost.
When a new domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors”. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records. Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.

Thank you macmanx, that is very helpful to know. I will wait some more time and post back here again if things still aren’t right within the next few days. Thanks again

One more question, is it normal that one moment typing in the URL takes me to the new page, and then the next moment typing the same URL loads up the old wordpress.com page?
Also is it normal that I was able to fully access my new wp/admin area and I was merrily changing things to do with a new theme, and then when I clicked on tools, I was suddenly and rather confusingly back in the admin section of my old wordpress.com blog. It seems like it changes back and forth all the time, but if this is to be expected then I suppose I’ll just stop trying to make any changes and just wait for the dust to settle.

Yes, that’s all part of propagation. Most ISPs have more than one DNS cache, and they very rarely refresh at the same time. So, one may have the new location while the other still has the old location.
