why can't I see "anyone can register" option on my settings page?
-
Hi – I want to allow people to register themselves on my wordpress site and have read a few things saying you can do this by going to your admin page > settings > general, scrolling to “members” and clicking “anyone can register”. However, on that page I do not have a members section or “anyone can register” option. Can you tell me why that is?
Thanks

Hi Jason,
The settings you’re referring to are only available on self-hosted sites using the WordPress.org software. On self-hosted sites, people can register just for your site itself.
On WordPress.com, in contrast, everyone registers for a WordPress.com account and then can be invited to join existing sites. If you have a private site, visitors can request access, but otherwise you’ll need to invite people to join your site depending on what level of access you want to give them.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that! You can also learn more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org if you’re curious about that.

Ah – I wondered if that might be the case, but just couldn’t see it say that anywhere – thanks very much for clearing it up!
Is there a widget I can use so people can request access?
Thanks

Hi Jason,
I’d recommend adding a Contact Form for that. You can tell people to contact you to request access, and then you’ll be able to invite them join. :)
