Why can’t I update my website?

    I have a website I’m trying to revive that was made in 2013 that won’t update.

    Initially WordPress would just say there was some generic error. But now it’s saying ‘You cannot update because WordPress 5.2 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.3.29-1~dotdeb.1+webhost.’

    How can I fix this?
