Why can't I upload my photos any more?

  • Unknown's avatar

When I try and upload photos using ‘Add Media’ it just doesn’t work at all. Using the multi-file uploader it hangs at the point when they’re ‘crunching’ and using the browser uploader it goes straight to page error before anything is uploaded.

This is a new problem that has been going on for just over a week. I have tried to do this with the same laptop but different places in case it’s an internet issue, but the problem persists.

    HELP!

Can you please try clearing out your browser cache?

Do you also encounter this issue in a different browser? for example Firefox, Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer?

Cleared out browser cache (currently using Firefox) and trying again. Stays at 0% now, doesn’t get as far as crunching.

Also had a go with Chrome; this suggested that the upload was immediately 100% then went to crunching and hung there again.

My husband tried logging in from his jezjohn59 account and managed to upload everything in less than 30 seconds. (He used Chrome on a Mac)

I tried on an old laptop using Firefox and it did work after a while. Could it be my computer?? It’s a relatively new Samsung Ultrabook series 5.

Thanks for your prompt response by the way, much appreciated.

I do see several uploaded files at https://hwi4u.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php . Were these the images that got stuck during crunching? or were these uploaded by your husband?

Are you perhaps running any other software or browser extensions on your computer that could block the connection? Otherwise I recommend disabling them (temporarily) and see if that fixed your issue.

I was able to upload the photo in the media tab button to my media folder and caption it. In the posts though, the media button will not load previous or new media- it does nothing. Yes I have cleared my cache.

@makingmypoint please confirm that you’ve tried other browsers too.

@anemy did you see my previous reply? also what Firefox version are you running?

HI sorry about the delay in responding we are ALSO having issues with the internet (hence replying twice before, sorry about that too) – which is why I have been trying other internet providers over the last few days.

Anyway, we are back online now and here’s where we’re up to:
    I’m on Firefox 22.0
I disabled Firefox extensions, and THEN IT WORKED!
That doesn’t explain why it hung in Chrome before, which I’ve only just downloaded and therefore doesn’t have any extensions.
Yes those other pictures were uploaded by my husband.
I am running Hola which is supposed to speed up the internet, what do you know about that? That’s the only thing that I can think of.

Oh, and it’s 36 degrees outside, and the internet might have melted before getting to my computer.

I hope this means it’s solved now, thank you so much for all your help! I’ll come back if it happens again… Thx again ~Anne

Hold on a min! I’ve just tried uploading a bigger file… 200kB (not that big, admittedly) and we’re back to where we were. It looked promising, getting to 78%, but then back to crunching.

I’m just going to try in Chrome for an alternative option…and that too seems to have stopped. This time it got quickly to 100% then after a long while it went to crunching.

    Hi Kardotim.
I ran windows updates I hadnt gotten to and it is working now. Thanks.

I am still having problems, but they aren’t consistent. Some photos I can upload via the Media/Add New whilst others I can’t. So I did another load with my husband’s computer again. Could this be a connectivity issue where my laptop times out quicker than his mac?

That’s possible. When a media file is stuck during uploading/crunching it mostly indicates in a connectivity issue. But you said that it isn’t working on other Internet connections either, therefore it must be related to software. Do you perhaps have any other software running? Maybe you can send us a screenshot of the page where you’re seeing the issue. You can send it to this e-mail address.

Same thing with me. firefox 22.0 try to upload media and the computer hangs up on the hourglass symbol. Chrome works fine, but i’d rather not let google track me.

    any ideas wp?

@kirtg could you try the browser uploader instead: http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/uploader/ ?

    @anemy I’ve just responded to your e-mail.

Hi Staff — I’m having sorta the same issue. Mine occurs when uploading media in bulk. Beginning with the fourth media (all photos), it stops at Crunching with some getting uploaded and others not. If I upload three at a time, it works, but I don’t have time to do that with uploading nearly 200 pictures each time.

I’ve called GoDaddy where the site is hosted and everything looks good on their end. I am running the latest version of WP and using Chrome. I also have been getting “cannot load” error message when navigating from the upload media section. I have cleared my cache and tried everything.
