Why can't I use a blog name that has been deleted?

  I want to add a new blog. The blog name that I really, really want to use has been deleted by the user, but wordpress says it’s no longer available. Why is that?

  Will it be available at a later time, or am I out of luck on this one?

  Out of luck. Deleted site URLs are never reused. https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

  If you opt to purchase and map a Custom Domain, the underlying WPcom site URL doesn’t really matter. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
