Why did I lose my Google rank when I moved to wordpress.org?
-
Hi,
I had bought a domain when I was on wordpress.com so my blog became projectrevolver.org instead of ending with .wordpress.com
Last week, I decided to transfer to wordpress.org so I registered my domain projectrevolver.org on bluehost and exported my old blog to wordpress.org
However, I lost my traffic from Google drastically, i am not sure what is happening. Offsite redirect was mentioned on some blog but wordpress won’t let me do the purchase since I still have the same domain.
Am I missing something?Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Since your domain mapping upgrade for projectrevolver.org is still active on your WordPress.com site, anyone who tries to visit your WordPress.com site (including from Google search results) will be automatically redirected to your new self-hosted WordPress.org site. That means you’re not losing any traffic from visitors who get to your site through search results. (You don’t need any other upgrades, like the Site Redirect, as long as your domain upgrade is active here.)
I’d recommend setting up Google’s Webmaster Tools and/or Google Analytics on your new self-hosted site. That way you can get more information directly from Google about your site’s rankings and traffic.
If you need any help with that, you can get support for your self-hosted site from the WordPress.org support forums here:
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
