Why did you notify me about "pingback" and ask if I wanted to approve?

I had two notices from you after my last blog that said pingback. It was what I had written repeated to me. Your notice was asking if I wanted to approve them. I don’t understand why I would do that. I read your explanation of pingback but it didn’t connect with my question at all.

    Hi there,

Pingbacks are created when you write a blog post that includes a link to another blog post. The new blog post you write “pings” the other blog post to let it know that someone is referring to that post.

If you approve a pingback, it will appear like a comment at the bottom of the post that was pinged. For example, if you “ping” someone else’s blog post by linking to it, their blog post will include a link to yours in their comments section. You can see examples of pingbacks on this Daily Post article:

    http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/11/20/daily-prompt-perspective-3/comment-page-1/#comments

In that case, each of the blog posts in that list include a link to that Daily Post article, which created the pingbacks.

You can disable pingbacks on your blog, or you can stop from creating “self pings” (pings within your own blog) by following the tips on this page: Pingbacks

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thank you. I have approved the pingbacks.
