Why do I have to provide my personal details if I'm buying privacy protection?

  I want to register a domain with privacy protection, but the fields for name, address, phone number, etc. are still required. What’s the logic behind this?

  The US requires accurate contact information when you purchase a domain name. The Privacy upgrade simply ensures this information is kept between you, WP.com and the domain seller, not available to anyone who goes to your website and looks it up.
