Why do I need to pay to map my site?

    I have a domain published at a registrar. I am using word press to host my site. I can have my url forward to the free word press account and while I’m logged in it works fine. But hotlinking to the site refuses the connection… it makes no sense to me. Why should I have to pay for something that literally takes no work on the part of WordPress. I’ll just host elsewhere. It’s much cheaper.

    Hi there,

    Most hosting providers charge for the service of letting you connect your own domain to a site on their servers. Most hosting providers also charge for the actual hosting, which we already provide to you for free.

    We do not support URL forwarding as a way to connect a domain, and while it might appear to work, it will cause various features on your site to break or not work correctly, including site stats and mobile-responsiveness of your theme. The only way to connect a domain registered elsewhere to a WordPress.com site is via domain mapping:
