why do I need to transfer my domain name?

  I don’t understand what mapping is

  Hi there,

  Mapping is the process whereby you connect a domain registered at another provider, to a site hosted on WordPress.com, so the WordPress.com site will show at the domain, but without moving control of the domain itself over to us.

  Transferring a domain is if you move control of the domain to us as well, so you pay us to renew it every year.
