Why doesn't the drop down feature of the categories widget working?
-
The dropdown option in the categories widget isn’t working properly. I can create it without a problem, but when i start listing all the items to be included the dropdown disappears and all I get is a very long list. What am I doing wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Right now, your Categories widget is set up to show a list all of your categories. You can check the box next to “Display as dropdown” to switch that to a dropdown instead of a regular list. (Be sure to click the “Save” button on the widget when you’re done.)
If that doesn’t work properly for you, can you please leave that button checked in the widget options and let me know? I can then take a look to see what’s going wrong there.

Thank you. That seems to have the drop down working now. But is it possible to have the widget show only one particular category rather than all of them together? I have two main category groups, which, in a perfect world should have two separate dropdown menus.
-
There isn’t a way to limit the Categories widget to show only one category, but you can set it up so it shows the hierarchy of categories. If you check the box next to “Show hierarchy” the drop down will show each subcategory underneath its parent category. That should help separate out your two main category groups there.

Your readers won’t get a notification when you update a post. One way to highlight an update you want your readers to know about would be to reblog that post. You can reblog it and include a note about what was updated, and your readers can click through to the original post to see the updates. :)

Thanks. IS there a way to increase the space between an image and the text that follows it. For example, there should be more space between the monogram image and the text at http://scaddenda.org/2014/10/02/scads31-antiochus-hierax-sc-836ad/
-
Sure thing! Your site’s theme adds a margin below every paragraph, so one way to add space below that image is to make sure it’s in its own separate paragraph.
To do that, you can click on the image to select it, and then select the paragraph style from the dropdown in the editor: https://cloudup.com/ci1CgVNgWkg
Be sure to click the Update button to save your changes when you’re done. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hm, I’m not sure why that didn’t work for you. I just tried it on the post you mentioned here:
http://scaddenda.org/2014/10/02/scads31-antiochus-hierax-sc-836ad/
I clicked on the image to select it, and then I clicked on the Paragraph dropdown and selected Paragraph. It added that paragraph style (including the margin below the paragraph) for that image.

Why do some users of my site get a page of xml code when the click on the subscribe button on the front page of scaddenda.org? It works fine for me.
-
The “Subscribe” button in the top right corner of your site is a link to your site’s RSS feed here: http://scaddenda.org/feed/
If your browser has a built-in feed reader, it will display that feed for you to read. Otherwise, visitors will just see the feed’s code itself. (That’s how RSS feeds look until you put them in a feed reader.) We have more details about Feeds if you’d like to learn more about that.
If your visitors aren’t sure what to do with the feed, you can add a Follow Blog Widget to your site’s sidebar. That will give visitors a place to subscribe to your blog via email, instead of the feed.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
-
So basically, users without a feed reader are getting the code and therefore they need a feed reader?
-
Yes, that’s right. They can copy the link to your feed (http://scaddenda.org/feed/) and put it in a feed reader to subscribe to your site. I use Feedly for that, but there are a number of other feed readers out there.
Alternately, you can set up the follow blog widget I mentioned so they can subscribe via email, to get email updates instead of using a feed reader.

Is there a way to edit the message that gets sent to email subscribers? It’s a little corny as it stands.
-
Do you mean the message that’s sent right when someone subscribes to the site? Sure! You can edit that under Settings > Reading in your site’s dashboard, in the follower settings section.

Thanks. Everything is running pretty well now, but now one more question. Is it possible to organize posts in an order other than the order of posting?
