Why is a post of mine not showing up in full?

I am trying to post a 2,773-word post with pictures I have uploaded and from URLs, and when I preview the post, the entire post is there. However, when I then publish this post, only the beginning and end couple paragraphs show up (down to 1060 words). This happens regardless of whether the input is visual or html, and also whether I use the web interface or the post by email method. I’ve also tried on both Safari and Firefox browsers. Again, it’s just publishing, that’s the problem, as the preview mode shows up just fine.

I’m not sure if it’s publishing a previously autosaved version — this seemed to be the problem for a little bit, but I then permanently deleted the post and gave it a new name, so I don’t see how it can be publishing a restored version.

Any help or further ideas for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Could you please let me know which exact post your are referring to?

Thanks for the response. I deleted the post because I don’t want to have a post that makes no sense on my blog. I can send you the html code if you want, or since you’re staff I could redo the post but have it be private or something; which would you prefer?

  • I doubt it would happen again, but we’ll need to see it in its published state to figure out what went wrong.

If that ever happens again, please leave it as is and let us know.

Well, I’ve tried all week, as I’ve said from different browsers etc. and the error is still there. I just published the post again so you can see it, and the problem still exists: it’s the most recent post: http://wordsmatter.net/

Again, in the preview mode the post looks fine. However when I take the preview URL and copy it from Firefox (where as a preview from the post it shows up fine) to Safari, what shows up is the truncated version again: http://paulachesleydotcom.wordpress.com/?p=379&preview=true

    Thanks for your help,
    Paula

  • If you check this comparison, it looks you like you may have replaced a whole section of text when you inserted your image:

    https://paulachesleydotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/revision.php?action=diff&post_type=post&right=379&left=381

The image will insert wherever the cursor is, so make sure that you don’t have any text highlighted either.

You can restore the previous revisions from that page.

Right, I had looked at other versions of revisions before asking for help. I did not actually make that change at all; in fact I literally copy-pasted the html from a file I have on my home computer to the input box, hit preview, and then hit publish. After clicking on your link, I hit restore for the old (16:47) version, got the old text in the input box, and then published. I got the shorter version *again*, and furthermore, after clicking “update” the shorter text showed up in the input. It is like clicking update or publish is making this big replacement.

At this point, I’d be perfectly happy if you’re able to publish the post for me (although I would like it to be categorized under “Ergonomics” instead of unclassified) — the old version from 16:47, that is. I am even willing to forgo putting tags on the post as I can’t seem to access a full-text version and save it with the appropriate classification and tags.

  • That is very odd. I’m seeing it myself. Would you mind seeing what happens if you just re-type the missing portion in the post editor?

I have a feeling some corrupt data may have been copied over.

Wow, I have no clue why, because I did not type in the text, but the whole post is showing up now, with the tags and everything. I honestly do not know why this is; did you do something?

  • I didn’t do anything, very strange. At least it’s working now!
