Why is my custom domain expiry only showing 11 months?

Why is my custom domain expiry only showing 11 months rather than the 12 I paid for?

I added the domain to my blog today (a subdomain I registered elsewhere) and the domain add on is showing it will expire and auto-renew in 11 months from today.

Could you explain why this is?

  • We auto renew domains 30 days before their expiration date. Why? Since letting a domain expire means you may not be able to get it back in the future, we want to ensure that everything is taken care of in advance. We do send out notification emails before charging your card, as we try not to surprise anyone. This is mentioned in the “my upgrades” support document and when you set up your auto-renewal. But it can also be easy to miss, so I understand the confusion. Also, to be clear, the renewal date is NOT your expiration date. Expiration is the full 12 months from your initial registration date.

You can turn off auto-renew from the “My Upgrades” page:

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.
