Why is my image illegible?

    This image is completely legible when I click on it from my hard drive. WordPress seems to have reduced the qualitry and destroyed its legibility.

    It doesn’t help that the button that used to upload media now does nothing except change from a + to an x.

    What image are you talking about?

    WordPress.com does not reduce the quality of your original uploaded images — they’re always preserved at full quality in your Media Library.

    What it does do is serve optimized versions to visitors (via the built-in CDN), which can include resizing and converting to WebP format for faster loading — but your originals stay untouched.
