why is WordPress SUPPORT soooooo difficult to connect with and find!??

I have a simple question: how can I control Image import compression, its taken me 2 hours of searching I still dont know the answer, your support is an endless loop, some answers are more than 2 years old, and I am offered 20 different plug ins, when this should be the most simple aspect of creating a website.. Also I have no clue how to find love chat and it was near impossible to find this page, which I am assuming will go unanswered.

We can only help with sites running on the wordpress.com platform. So first things first: what is the URL of your site?

  • @dpmatlosz,

If you’re talking about dpmatlosz.wordpress.com, that’s a free WordPress.com site. You won’t be able to use any plugins on it, but you also don’t need any.
Here you can read more about preparing your images to be uploaded to a site:

    https://wordpress.com/support/media/image-optimization/.

Live Chat and email support are available for users on paid plans:
    https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/.

If you’re referring to a different site, hosted elsewhere, as @staartmees mentioned, we won’t be able to help here. If you want to read more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please have a look at this page: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/.

Well here in lies the problem. I was talking about my site, The Idaho Film Company, which is utilizing Word press through Ionos. Its a paid version of word press through them, I accessed this help page through the site I am building, the idaho film company. It took me quite some time to navigate to this window.

That said it us still very challenging to find support for simple items and wondering whether they are glitches or user error. I have been using drag and drop, or basically building sites without code for 15 years. there are always growing pains with any new app, but support was always easily accessible.

I am hoping for now this is just user error, but what I have seen so far are an endless supply of answers to questions, many of which are very very dated and otherwise it seems that plug ins are plentiful and offered to fix every problem, which as we know additive programming is the worst type, because it creates the potential for more issues which are more difficult to trouble shoot.

And all I wanted to do was reduce the compression on images.

So in looking at the Apps for reducing an Image, I ask why would I use that and not use photoshop, for those of us who are image control knowledgeable. uploading my images and manipulating them on a 3rd party web based app seems archaic and flawed. also my concern is that wordpress is the app which is then recompressing my images, so to go through the process of resizing then to potentially have wordpress compress again seems like a waste of time. What I am wondering is why can I not import an image into word press and choose the compression I want? why is it a multistep third party action? This seems such a waste of time and still a guessing game. It cant be that challenging in 2021. I use to build my site in 2005 on photoshop 7 and that was easier and more intuitive. just sayng.

  • Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with Ionos.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

https://wordpress.org/support/ is a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software, and you can find support for that at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Your hosting provider’s support team may also be able to assist.

Good times and how completely confusing and annoying. Kind of BS IMHO. ill follow the rules but the point of my initial post is loud and clear.

why is it so difficult and confusing!?

I prefer to subscribe to Keep It Simple Simon.

    Thanks

And here is the confusing part again… I am using Themes, I am using plug ins. I am using Astra and Elementor. Sorry but what am I missing here?

I did NOT download word press.org. as stated below

You can download the WordPress software for free at https://wordpress.org, but it must be installed on a web server before it will work. You will need to research and install your own themes and plugins.

    Sorry even more confusing now.

  • Your site is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, which we really can’t help with here.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
