why my entered categories, do not appear on the blogs side bar?

  why my entered categories, do not appear on the blogs side bar?
  I go to dashboard,choose categories, add a new one, but it does not appear in actual blog’s sidebar. Then I tried to add a post, but it does not work. it doesn’t show the name of category in browse my categories. I tried to add them to custom menu, but they don’t appear there as well… Maybe i am doing something wrong? Please help.

  Hi there,
  Until your have assigned a category to a post and published that post there is no data that a categories widget can display or that the categories page can display.
