Why this insane number of views

  So, today “Stats” reports that I had 5634 views. That is just plain nuts.

  Please get “Stats” fixed once and for all.

  Before assuming it’s a bug, it might actually just be a good day!

  Your blog covers science news from major institutions and you post frequently, so it’s totally possible something got picked up by Reddit, Hacker News, or a big science aggregator and sent a traffic spike your way.

  Quick thing to check, go to Stats → Referrers for that day and see where the views came from. If one source sent a flood of traffic that explains it right there. Also check Top Posts for that day to see which specific post drove it.

  If the referrers show nothing at all and the numbers still look completely random, then yeah it could be a counting issue worth reporting to WordPress.com support at wordpress.com/help/contact with the exact date.

  But check the referrers first, might just be your blog having a moment!
