  There are numerous weather widgets that work here, and it’s logical to assume there are some stock tickers as well. I know there are roundups at http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com

  I must be an idiot because every time I try to paste it in a text box in the sidebars, I get just the code showing up.

  You’re using code that doesn’t work here. Some gets stripped for security reasons. The ones on that site I listed DO work here. I used the Weather Pixie myself for several years, till the site went offline.
