Widgets do not ‘match’ my theme, and are all a different ‘style’
-
I’m using the Button 2 theme with a free plan. I’ve added several widgets to my sidebar, but the style/format of these widgets doesn’t match or conform to the other features of my theme. I found other blogs using Button 2, and their widgets (the same ones as I’ve chosen) and buttons DO all match. By ‘match’, I mean they are rectangular with a shaded background, the same font, and a dotted border reminiscent of sewing stitches. (This style can be seen on my blog for ‘Menu’ and ‘Post Comment’ in mobile view or ‘Older Posts’ in desktop view.) The result is that my widgets are a mismatched hodgepodge that, frankly, look terrible. I never had this issue with my other blog, Flagstones & Fog – which I set up long before the new block editor came along and which I was able to customize like a boss. There, you’ll see that the widgets are all the same style; they just came that way! Can anyone help, please? (I have more questions about my widgets, but I think I’ll have to address them separately.) Thanks!

Hey there, can you try adding the search and what not as “legacy” widgets to see if that helps?
Here’s what to do:
– Go to your Widgets area
– Add a widget, and search for Legacy Widget
– Select the one you want from the list (like Search)
Can you see if that gets you the same styles?

Hi, thanks for your response! I tried as you suggested, but only one of the widgets I wanted was listed in the dropdown under Legacy Widget. (I had no idea the dropdown was there!)
By chance, I found the secret: Add the widget of choice as a block, as usual. Then, in the rectangular box of customizing options that comes up for the widget, click on the very left (the widget’s symbol/name) and choose Transform to>Widget Group.
A title/header field comes up when you change it to a Widget Group, so I was able to add titles to my widgets. And, magically, they also display any design features/style of the site’s theme, which is exactly what I wanted. Happy Camper now!

There you go! I forgot about Widget Groups and was thinking instead in terms of grouping widgets. I’m glad you’ve got it, and glad you shared.
Cheers!
