will old free wordpress domain URL redirect to my new paid domain?
-
Hi there! I have a free wordpress site currently for my business, so my URL ends in ‘.wordpress.com’. I currently have this url publicized widely, including business cards. (Maybe an oversight or premature of me at the time I had those printed, I’m aware.)
I do finally want to upgrade my website and pay for a domain, and have a new URL that I choose. My question is, when doing so, will people trying to access my *old* URL that ends in ‘.wordpress.com’ be automatically redirected to my site? (aka does the old URL stay intact?)
If not, do people using the old URL just get an error? Or any sort of message that the site has moved?
Thanks!
Thanks!

(To be clear – upgrade and have a paid domain on wordpress. So just wondering if it’s a built in courtesy on WordPress that people trying to access your old free domain URL will be redirected to your new paid wordpress domain’s url…)

That is correct. Whoever clicks on your free address will be automatically redirected to your new domain, so no need to worry about that :).
