WooCommerce payments plugin

I am having difficulties finding the fundamental differences between using stripe payments directly vs using WooCommerce payments plugin that is pushed by WordPress and WooCommerce..

The difference in terms of fees, availability of payment options (eg, does WCP support afterpay like stripe does?)

What are the advantages of using WCP over stripe directly OTHER than just credit card transactions are displayed in the WP console – limited information, the rest you would need to still login to stripe.

Lastly, those with experiences, plugin performance for those that used both and also experiences of those that use with a PayPal payment solution. I am currently using PayPal payments…

    Thanks in advance.

I don’t have a site linked to this WordPress.com account

  • WooCommerce Payments offers a tighter integration than our Stripe gateway extension.

You’ll get the same support for a streamlined direct-to-credit-card flow, support for multiple currencies, and support for device payments like ApplePay, neither of which are offered by the PayPal gateway.

WooCommerce Payments and our Stripe gateway extension charge the same fees, which are lower than PayPal.

In comparison to our Stripe gateway extension though, WooCommerce Payments offers the opportunity to manage your payment gateway from inside your WooCommerce dashboard itself. This is unique to WooCommerce Payments. Chargebacks, refunds and dispuates can be managed from within your WordPress site’s own dashboard.

On Stripe, you would have to handle many of these functions only after logging into your Stripe dashboard.

Overall though, choosing a payment gateway can be very personal and business-specific, so we have some recommendations at https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/premium-payment-gateway-extensions/

    Thanks for the fast response.

So all other payment types available like Google pay and same rates etc. Great. Specifically is afterpay available using the WCP plugin? Stripe couldn’t answer that when I asked and directed me here. 👍

The integration is a good feature that is well documented, it’s only the small details missing like rates and whether all the same payment types are available in the WCP docs.

Cheaper rates is the main reason we are looking to move away from PayPal, which has been reliable in all honesty.
The second reason is access to more payment types.
Lower down is the WordPress integration, helpful but not the primary reasoning behind making the switch.

    Thanks again 🙏

  • Afterpay is a separate system, so you’d need the separate free extension to add it: https://woocommerce.com/products/afterpay/

As for the WooCommerce Payments’ rates, please see https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/payments/faq/fees/
