Word press account?!

    Hey guys, I am REALLY confused…

    I originally purchased domain from goDaddy. Later I found out that I should of gotten through HostGator since I wanted my site to be WordPress. Anyways, I went and purchased hosting for 12months and ‘transferred’ my domain: digital.syntax. I am now waiting for the transfer to happen (said 24-48hrs)

    Anyways, a few days ago (maybe a week) I was eager to get the ball rolling so I went to wordpress and created an account; this account. Additionally, I also created 3 accounts (HostGator, CPanel, and what I thought was- WordPress). In the end though, I cannot seem to log into my WordPress account on this app with the proper WordPress account that has my domain (both the word press accounts share the same email- WTF?!)

    I am soooo confused… Can you guys clear this up for me?

    If you have purchased hosting through HostGator, you have a self hosted WordPress.org site, not a WordPress.com site. We have a guide which the key differences between the two:

    If you purchased the domain from GoDaddy, I recommend speaking to them about the transfer — they should be able to give you more information.

    You have two accounts:

    1. The WordPress.com account you are currently logged in to.

    2. The account on your self hosted WordPress.org site.

    You won’t be able to login to WordPress.com and access your self hosted site as the two are not connected. Although both sites might share the same email address, there may be different passwords.

    If you want to be able to manage that site from your WordPress.com account, have a look at Jetpack. Jetpack can be used to connect your self hosted site to your WordPress.com account:

    Thanks for the reply! I will try to merge my account (make it so that I can use the app to access my .org account, etc). I’ve got two quick questions though:

    1) I followed these directions in order to transfer my domain. The Host Gator rep told me to wait 24-48 hours before its complete; is that all I had to do, and now its time to wait, correct?

    2) Just so that there is a lot less confusion for me, are you able to delete my wordpress.com account? Or provide me with a link to a guide to do so? Both my wordpress.com and wordpress.org accounts use the email (email visible only to moderators and staff).

    Hi syntaxdigital,

    I followed these directions in order to transfer my domain.

    The instructions you found were for changing name servers, not transferring a domain. I’d recommend speaking to GoDaddy and asking them to confirm the transfer has been initiated from their side. They will be able to give you a better idea of how long it might take.

    Just so that there is a lot less confusion for me, are you able to delete my wordpress.com account?
