.wordpress.com domains not available anymore

Hi,
I’d like to start a new blog, and I like the idea of having a domain along the lines of mygreatblogname.wordpress.com .
But in the second step, where I select my domain, .wordpress.com is never available – for free domains, it’s either home.blog , art.blog , video.blog , or something like that.
.wordpress.com domains look serious, clean, and also advertise wordpress.com. But I guess they’re not available anymore?

Hi there, when you add a new site, don’t fill in anything on the first page; just click on the Continue button. https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account
Add your desired name on the “Enter a name or keyword” line. You’ll likely be offered a couple of paid domain upgrades, but the free option should be just underneath those.
