WordPress doesn't recognize that email was confirmed

So, I’m coming here after WordPress deleted my question twice on their little “Ask the experts,” chat-bubble thing.
I’ve followed the link in the activation email. WordPress says “Woohoo, your email is confirmed. Alright, now go to Gravatar.” Gravatar says my email hasn’t been confirmed – for them. I go back to WordPress and WordPress will not let me do anything, insisting once again that my email was not confirmed.
I am extremely frustrated. I’ve been having this problem for over a year and I’m finally fed up enough to put in some serious effort into getting it solved. No matter how many times I do the “Resend email – click on email – get page that says I’m confirmed” song and dance, WordPress STILL says that I need to confirm my email.
Please help.
