    If I change my wordpress domain to something else and I only use the site.wordpress.com address and do not link through a purchased domain will I lose all my current followers and content or will my site just change and be accessed by newsite.wordpress.com

    Your free site address can be changed with these steps:

    Change a Site Address

    The process doesn’t remove followers or content — they would only need to be moved over if you were moving from one site to another. But in this case, you will be renaming an existing site :)
