WordPress domain is locked after expiration

Hello,
I had a domain subscription for my website https://www.coeuretcorps.fr/ but this one as expired (was expected since I wanted to change for another service). But the problem is that it’s already some days that subscription has expired, and the domain is still mark “in used” when trying to buy/register it ! I can only say “yes it”s my domain”, but then I need the AuthInfo code that I cannot get from my panel since it’s no more present in it …
What should I do ?

That domain is not registered with us, you’ll need to contact its current registrar to renew it.

I am sorry but the domain has been registered by wordpress. I have it on my account bill history !

Oops, sorry for the confusion!
The domain coeuretcorps.fr has expired and right now is in a state called Redemption. We can still recover it at this point although you’d need to pay the registration fee of $15. Once the domain is back on your account, you’ll be able to transfer it to another registrar.
If that’s not what you want, you can wait for the Redemption period to be over and register the domain elsewhere. The Redemption usually lasts 30 days, after that time the domain will be released to the public.

Wow, seriously I need to pay for an expired domain I have already paid in the past just in order to be able to transfer it somewhere else ? That’s very weird.
There is no possibility to reduce/end the redemption period ?

If I don’t have any other solution, yes I want to renew/register it.
It’s my professional website, that is for now unreachable so I don’t have any other choice.
What should I do ?

The length of the redemption period, and rules governing how expiration operates, are set my ICANN (the organization which oversees all domain registrars), not us, so we cannot change any of that: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-expiration/
The only option here would be to wait for the domain to re-enter the public market, or renew it with us as the original registrar.
