WordPress export import

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a Typepad blog. I have successfully exported it and imported into a WordPress.org blog hosted in Azure. I used the TP2WP Importer plug-in to do the import. All images are imported and correct. Then I exported it, and tried to import it into a WordPress.com blog. The import completes, but the image links are wrong. e.g. https://mytesting881.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/6a0115715526dc970c022ad3b9667a200b.png is not found. But this is the GUID from the exported site, and not a new GUID. There are, in fact, no images imported into the new site.
Question a) How do I fix the import of images from a WordPress site?
Question b) As an alternative, can I subscribe to a Business plan in order to use the TP2WP Importer plug-in, and then downgrade to the Premium plan after I have finished with the import?
    Thanks

  • Hi –

Thanks for getting in touch. This is odd. Can you put the file on DropBox so that we can give it a test from our side of things? Just send me a link here.

Yes, you can use the business plan and then downgrade. If you downgrade with in 30 days of purchase you will get a refund for the difference of the plans.

    Thanks. Here it is:

  • Thanks! I have started the import process. Will update once it is done.

Any luck? Or any idea what is wrong?
    Thanks

  • Hey there,

So, I checked your site and it looked like the import staff-zinnia performed worked…however, all of the posts that were imported over went straight into the trash. So, you have duplicates of each post in the trash. What I did was take one of the posts (STP and Graph Theory) and restored it from the trash to check if the images imported over, and they did!

Therefore, to simplify things, I am going to clear the site of all of its current content and import the XML file over again so that all of the posts with the images don’t end up in the trash. Give me a few minutes to do that and I will lt you know when it is done.

    Thanks!

  • Hey there,

It’s importing now and I am gonna keep my eye on it. Will post here once it is done.

    Thanks,

  • Odd, so it did the same thing again. The posts with valid images ended up in the trash. I’ll go ahead and manually restore them. I’ll let you know once I am done.

    Thanks!

  • Alright, that took some time, but I think I got all the posts up and running correctly. Please take a look and let me know if everything looks good on your end.

    Thanks!

Thanks, I apperciate your efforts. But the result seems to be the same. There are no images in the image folder, and the posts have no images.
This time, the links are to the new site; but they give “File not Found”.
I was thinking maybe I should delete the theme to try this with a plain site. I will start afresh and see what happens.

  • So, when you visited your posts, you did not see any images? On my end, I check several posts and the images popped up. Hmm…well, let us know if you have any luck when you attempt the import with a plain site.

    Thanks,

  • Also, as staff-zinnia mentioned, if you wanted to update to the Business Plan in order to use a plugin temporarily and then downgrade to premium plan, you can do so. Not an ideal workaround, but you will get refunded the difference of the upgrades.

I created a new site with no customisation. Ran the import. Same result: no images; and the image links are to the old site. This time the site is: https://airdesk361256698.wordpress.com/.
The posts are all imported. Just no images.

  • Good morning –

I am working on this. Will report back with an update on any progress made. I’m not sure what’s going on here, to be honest. I’m asking some other folks for input and idea as to how we get this corrected.

  • Let’s try this. Use the All In One Plugin migration to create the site export. This will give us a copy of the site and we can work on it from our side to figure out what’s going wrong.

    All-in-One WP Migration

That file can be linked here through Drop Box like we did before or you can use send.firefox.com.

OK, thanks, I will do that next

  • Thanks. We’ll reach out via email for that link so you won’t need to share all of it publicly.

I have sent a link to the Dropbox folder of the All-in-One plugin.
I know I could just use the Typepad Import plugin, but actually I would like to make sure I can move the WordPress site to other sites in future, so it is useful to know what the problem is. It’s really just a simple blog of posts and images, so I don’t know why it is such a problem. The import is finding the URL for the images, but just not copying them.

    Thanks
    Anthony

  • Thanks. We’ll continue this in the email support ticket you now have open.
